There is about a 95% chance I’m not running the Jazz Half Marathon at the end of this month. I’m so over running.
Saturday, I planned to run my 10 miles … maybe 10.5 depending on how I felt. When I first got there and started to run, I wasn’t in the mood to be there. I was actually dreading the run. I started to run with the group anyways because that feeling usually wears off. Saturday it did not.
By mile 5 I was cramping. Big time. Mile 7 my hips hurt so bad, it felt like my bones were grinding together. I ended up walking the last 3 miles. I’m not exaggerating when I say it was THE worst run of my life. I cried 2 of those last 3 miles.
After the run, I just chalked it up to a bad run, and planned to go for a short 3.2 easy run. I wasn’t going to bring my watch or anything. I was just going to run.
About 10 minutes in to the run this morning I stopped. I was miserable. I was in pain and I honestly didn’t feel like running.
I used to run for fun, but now it seems like a chore. I can’t go out one of my two days off because I have to run the following morning at 6am. I can’t wear heels to work because they shorten my calves which cause shin splints. I have to wake up super early on the weekdays to fit in a run. I’m over it.
I’m taking a break from running until I WANT to run again.
I’m also setting up a sports massage appointment for my hips in hopes they can tell me what’s up, or refer me to a doctor.
That being said, here is my workout schedule for the week:

I’m still determined to win the Pure Barre challenge!!
Have you ever taken a break from running?
Xoxo.

when it becomes a chore and not fun anymore… its not worth it! its good that you can recognize that too and not hurt yourself! good luck!
thanks Heather!
I’ve done this with a lot of exercise before (won’t lie, it’s usually cardio). It is funny how after a while I usually want to come back. After reading about your pure barre adventures, I saw one in walking distance to the vacation house I was staying at in Florida last week and gave it a try. So fun! I can see why you are getting great results and also having a good time!

Aw yay! So glad you gave it a shot!! :)
I felt that way when I was training for my half marathon towards the end too! I took a break.. which I guess ended up being a long one.. since now I can’t run til after I have my baby haha.
Not to say if you stop running you will get pregnant haha. ours was planned this way :) haha
Haha. Love it! But it’s nice to hear that others need breaks too :)
